Corona Borealis

I remember
how you wore a crown of starlight
in the night, still
and empty black
and how, from a pine bark
a thousand years thick,
I peeled a fragrant sliver
to place in your cup
your cup now shattered
in the earth's fire
your breath scattered down time
comes to me in this
hardened, heart-dead place
singing the dream
of another, sweeter country
